Why I Built Lumae AI (And What's Next)
A BTech student's honest take on building an AI startup solo, from Deoria to Bangalore — no big-team backstory, just curiosity and a lot of self-teaching.
I'm not going to pretend there was some big dramatic moment that made me build Lumae AI. No overnight burnout from managing fifty client accounts, no “aha” moment in a boardroom. The honest version is simpler: I'm an ECE student, I got genuinely curious about what AI could do, and I wanted to build something real with it instead of just reading about it.
Where I'm starting from
I grew up in Deoria, a small town in Uttar Pradesh, and I'm currently in Bangalore finishing my BTech in Electronics and Communication Engineering. That's not the background you'd expect for someone building a SaaS product — no formal software or business training, no co-founder, no funding. Just me, figuring things out as I go.
I'm self-taught on pretty much every part of this — the product, the code, the design decisions, even how a credit-based pricing model should work. Every mistake in Lumae right now is mine, and so is every fix.
Why AI, why social media content
I've always been drawn to AI — not as a buzzword, but as a genuinely interesting set of tools that are changing what one person can build alone. Content creation and social media felt like the right place to start: it's a problem almost everyone building a brand online runs into, and it's a space where AI can save real time instead of just being a gimmick.
So Lumae AI became my answer to a question I kept asking myself: *can I build something that actually generates, schedules, and automates content well enough that people would want to use it?*
Where things stand today
I'll be straight with you: Lumae is early. Really early. I'm still in the first stretch of building, iterating on the product, and getting the first handful of users through the door. There's no polished “success story” to tell yet — just steady work, one feature at a time.
What exists today: AI-powered post and media generation, scheduling, auto-reply automation, and analytics — all built to actually get used, not just demoed.
What's next
I'm focused on getting the fundamentals right before anything else — a cleaner, more premium experience across the site and app, a fair credit system so people can try Lumae without friction, and steadily shipping the features that make the day-to-day work of managing social content easier.
If you're building something solo too, student or not, I hope this is a small reminder that you don't need a team, funding, or a perfect origin story to start. You just need to start.
If you want to follow along or try Lumae AI yourself, I'd love to have you as one of the first people using it.
